Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 we offer a Level 1 vocational qualification and the course we follow is the OCR National specification.

The course can be completed as First National Award which is a four unit qualification, comprising core units of:

  • Working as a Team in Leisure and Tourism
  • Investigating Leisure and Tourism Provision
  • Introducing Skills for Working in Leisure and Tourism
  • Investigating Options for Work in Leisure and Tourism

Many students are able to complete the National Award which is an eight unit qualification, comprising an additional core unit and three optional units.

Core Units:

  • Communication Skills in Leisure and Tourism

Additional Optional Units include:

  • UK Visitor Destinations
  • Transport for Tourism
  • Promoting Leisure and Tourism
  • Customer Service in Leisure and Tourism
  • Presentation Software

As part of the course a number of visits are required to local leisure and tourism providers, such as Letchworth Leisure Centre and Letchworth Tourist Information Office, as well as regional destinations such as Great Yarmouth and London. Students complete team working tasks such as organising a school disco, a sports tournament or a visit to a local destination. Extensive use is made of ICT facilities.

Work is assessed by submitting portfolios for each unit, which are internally marked and externally moderated twice a year. Tasks change from year to year to take into account the groups’ interests and skills. This is a nationally recognised qualification which can lead to Level 2 or 3 qualifications in Travel and Tourism or employment in the leisure and tourism industry.
