Youth Speaks: Round 1

On Monday 13th January we had the first round of Youth Speaks, a debating competition organised by the Rotary club. We entered an Intermediate team (made up of Tilly Keegan 8SR, Ruby Deane 8SO and Erin Burke 7OB) who debated the issue of assisted suicide, and a Senior team (made up of Alice Blackford 10CA, Sam Johnson 10CA and Elliot Mainwaring 10HF) who spoke about life sentences – very happy topics, I’m sure you can agree!

Both teams had worked together in and out of school to prepare for this competition and knew their topics extremely well. On the night, they were up against tough competition from HBS, Fearnhill and Princess Helena College, but both our teams spoke with clarity, confidence and passion – they did TPS very proud indeed.

Unfortunately the Intermediate team didn’t go through, but considering it was their first time at the competition they did amazingly well. The Seniors on the other hand came first, beating Princess Helena College, and they go through to the next round next month.

Congratulations to both teams!
