Gap Year

Some of you may be considering a gap year after your Sixth Form study and before higher education. You may have a variety of reasons for considering a gap year, which could include:

  • To take a break from education
  • To earn money to use for your higher education
  • To travel to different parts of the world and experience other cultures

A larger number of you are considering a break in your education but a few words of advice…..

  • It is better to arrange a place in higher education prior to your gap year, then you do not have to keep visiting school to complete the UCAS form.
  • Ensure that you tell your Head of Sixth that you are considering a gap year and what you want to do. A great deal of information on gap is available.
  • If you want to complete a voluntary period of work overseas, companies operating schemes want payment for transport and accommodation. E.g. GAP activity projects charge up to £1600 for a three-month project.
  • Excellent, up to date gap year information and website details are available on the Useful Websites section. Particularly useful is http:\\www.thegapyear.co.uk, which has a huge quantity of useful links at the bottom of the home page.
