The Governing Board of The Priory School welcomes you to our school website and hopes that you find it interesting and informative. The Priory is a Foundation school with 15 Governors sitting on the Governing Board:
Governor Category | Number | Governor Category | Number |
Partnership Governor | 2 | Co-opted Governor | 8 |
Local Authority Governor | 0 | Staff Governor | 1 |
Parent Governor | 2 | Headteacher | 1 |
Governors are all trained volunteers, with the Governing Board representing the school’s key stakeholders: elected staff, elected parents and the local community. The Governing Board has three key strategic responsibilities to perform to ensure that the school provides the best learning experience for your child:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its students, and the performance management of staff;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Additionally, we are responsible for ensuring that the school meets any relevant legal requirements. We do this by creating, and keeping under review, a policy framework that allows the Headteacher and staff to remain firmly in control of the day-to-day running of the school.
The Governing Board is divided into 3 committees: Finance & Resources, Curriculum & Progress, and Wellbeing & Inclusion. This ensures that we are able to monitor activities in school and do our best to be a critical friend. In practice, although the Governing Board and each of its main sub-committees meet regularly every term, Governors find that a valuable and enjoyable part of the job is visiting during the working day to develop their understanding of the school and to talk with the staff and students. We work with the school to make sure that the needs of the whole school community are satisfied and that The Priory School is a happy, safe and stimulating environment for the students and that they will look back on their school days as the best days of their lives.
