PARENT INFORMATION 2026-2027
Blended Learning at The Priory School, Hitchin
We are pleased to continue our innovative approach to education through our Blended Learning programme for the 2026-2027 academic year. Our goal remains to equip students with the digital fluency required for the future while maintaining the high standards of traditional teaching that define The Priory School, Hitchin.
Technology as a tool, not a distraction
At The Priory School, Hitchin we view Chromebooks as educational tools—similar to a calculator, a textbook, or a laboratory instrument. They are used to enhance learning, foster collaboration, and provide instant access to global resources.
However, we are committed to a balanced approach. These devices will be used sparingly and purposefully throughout the school day. Teachers will direct students to use their Chromebooks only when they add specific value to the lesson; at all other times, devices will be closed to ensure students remain focused on classroom discussion, handwriting, and face-to-face interaction.
Providing a device for your child
When your child joins the school we ask you to indicate if you would like to purchase a device they can take home each day, or if you would prefer they borrowed a school device. If you would like to purchase a device, we offer three different payment options as part of our Chromebook scheme. These are outlined in the Chromebook Payment Options below.
If you do not want to purchase a device for your child, they are welcome to borrow one from our creche each day. These devices are available to pick up at the start of each school day, breaktime and lunchtime, but must then be returned at the end of the day.
Responsibility and device care
To ensure every student has access to a working device, we must work together to maintain our fleet. Supporting your child in looking after their Chromebook is essential.
- Financial Implications: While we provide initial accidental damage cover, please be aware that in instances of negligence or repeated damage, parents may be charged for repairs or replacements.
- The Loaning System: Our school library maintains a limited number of “loaner” devices. When devices are broken through lack of care, it puts a significant strain on this system, potentially leaving other students without the tools they need for their lessons.
- Best Practices: We provide a protective case with every device. Students are expected to keep their Chromebook in this case at all times when not in use.

Note: To ensure compatibility with our management and safety filtering systems, only Chromebooks purchased through the school scheme are permitted on the school network.
