Youth Speaks

On the evening of the 12th January, we took an Intermediate and a Senior team to the first local round of Youth Speaks, a national debating competition, at the Queen Mother Theatre. We are extremely proud to say that we won both (!) rounds, the first time we have fielded teams in both categories and got them both through.
We were against 3 intermediate teams from Hitchin Girls’ School and a team from Hitchin Boys’ School but Megan Reed (9MH), Daisy Doyle (9RS) and Stan Taunt (8LA) won the Intermediate category, having spoken eloquently and passionately about ‘Bullying: A recipe for suffering’.
Our Senior team of Nicole de la Cruz (11VM), Hannah Price (11DP) and Georgie Prebble (11DJ) posed the interesting question ‘How much faith do we put in Science?’ and beat Hitchin Boys’ to take the double crown.
We go on to face North Hertfordshire and some Bedfordshire teams in the District round of the competition next month.
They were all stunning and, yet again, a credit to the school.
We will keep you updated as to their progress in the competition and dates of further rounds if you would like to come and support the students.
