Gill Carpenter

Partnership Governor

Committees: Wellbeing & Inclusion

For 27 years I was a primary school teacher and have 19 years of SENCO experience (Special Educational Needs), working in a variety of schools in London, Middlesex and Hertfordshire. I worked locally in Wilshere -Dacre Junior Academy for 9 years, becoming an assistant Headteacher. During COVID I was part of the Hitchin Mental Health Recovery Team and became a trustee for Hitchin Youth Trust in 2022. I left teaching in 2022 for a new challenge, retrained and am now an NHS Adolescent Health and Wellbeing coach, working with the local charity, GRIT (Growing Resilience in Teens).  I work with young people aged 11-24 years old delivering one-to- one coaching across a range of settings, including Hitchin secondary schools. I enjoy working with young people and am passionate about developing emotional resilience and good mental health.

I moved to Hitchin in 2005 and love its strong sense of community. I have two daughters, aged 21 and 19, who both attended The Priory school and were very well cared for. I have always admired the school’s values and inclusive ethos and became a Governor because I feel strongly about its commitment to the personal as well as the academic development of all pupils.

In my free time I enjoy comedy, music, film and theatre and spending time with family and friends.  I enjoy travelling and exploring other cultures, but am equally happy roaming the Hertfordshire countryside with my lively rescue dog, who never seems to get tired!
